Back from the Arctic Circle

One place I never thought I would visit.

Alan and I soon discovered just how close we were from the arctic circle on our road trip last week. We couldn’t pass by such an opportunity. Some of the most beautiful terrain I’ve ever seen adorns the Dempster Hwy, the worst road I’ve ever driven on. Rich hues of gray, purple, burnt sienna, green, yellow, and pink still linger inside my heart. At times, it was so quiet we could hear ringing.

Two New Works

I Experimented with textures with these two. On the below, “Tempted Pulse” I tried to rub down to the marble dust layer. The piece above “Reaching Into Us,” has a different base texture that I left from the linen.

Transition

I’m excited about the opportunity to blog and likewise try to spend more time on my own artwork. Lately, I am most observant of my own approach to each piece. Both the oil on canvas and the fresco on marble dust panel offer boundaries in the process of how I produce each painting. I am interested in the balance of subjectivity and observation, the pull of abstract from real, and the ability to express fully within these limits and freedoms.Swept Into Me

I took down my show today at Vin Bistro. The piece above included. Surrounded by past work is not my favorite way to approach a new piece, but this week I’m going to make it work for me 🙂
